Last night was the Duke vs. UNC game. For those of you who are clueless with regards to college basketball (the Canadians) the Duke/UNC rivalry is probably the biggest in the North American college basketball, which makes this game, with the exception of the national championship game, the biggest basketball game of the year. Imagine two top academic schools less than 20km away from each other with two of the very best basketball programs in the NCAA.

Students who wanted to get into the game have been literally living in a tent city (called K-Ville after our coach) outside the stadium for the last two months, and that’s only if they were lucky. There was a tenting wait list. We're also ranked #1 this year - UNC is “only” #15 in the NCAA, and so our victory was more or less assured (they won the NCAA last year but we beat them here and won our conference, the ACC).

Upon winning this game there is a bonfire in which benches from all across campus are dragged into the main quad and tossed on the fire - it got so intense last year that the fire marshal had to put it out when random couches and mattresses began to appear on the fire.

Now listen to me very carefully: We were going to win this game. We should have won this game. We knew we were going to win this game. Sitting there and watching J.J. Redick (the best player in Duke’s history) miss shot after shot was almost as painful as watching our nonexistent defense as we lost the game.

The point of this whole rant is that this year we were unable to pull out a win and the entire campus was crushed. I don’t think a single person knew what to do last night; watching the masses shuffle down campus was one of the saddest things I've ever seen.

To add insult to injury (or perhaps injury to insult) as I was out on a cookout run (fast food with good shakes) with some friends in an attempt to boost our spirits almost every room on our hall had been robbed. As it turns our it wasn’t just my hall but the entire quad that got hit - I was lucky in that they didn’t come far enough into our room to get anything from me but one of my roommates (Varun) lost his camera and 200$ in cash.

I’m just chronicling my life here; I really don’t have much of a point…

The weekend wasn’t all bad though - Friday night was a whole lot of fun.

The picture is from last year.
